Update from LL

Howdy Y'all,                                                                       May 13, 2009     Lots of very exciting stuff is in the works here at the Studio of Laura Lea Nalle.  I leave next week to go to London for five days for both work and pleasure as I'm en route to Italy.  In London, I'm doing some research for an upcoming collaborative project that is still top secret so that's all I'm going to say about that, for now.  I'll also get to visit one of my favorite people, my godfather Philip Bobbitt, who is an amazing scholar of constitutional law and military strategy.   I'll also see the Arc Angels open for Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall, and there just might be something in the works for an interview with Doyle Bramhall 2.                                                                                                                        After London, I'll go to Italy for a month-long art study in Florence.  I'll be living in an apartment right next door to the Medici Palace, and I'll be exploring the tremendous riches of art, architecture, and history in this amazing city and its surrounding areas.  I'll head to the magical floating city of Venice for the Biennale where I'll see some of the best contemporary art being produced from around the world.  My stay in Italy will wrap up with a week in Rome exploring the sites and smells of that historic city.  I'll attend a performance of Le Grande Macabre at the Teatro dell'Opera, and I'll see (and hope to photograph) shows by Lenny Kravitz, Ornette Coleman, Ry Cooder and Nick Lowe.  Check back later in June for photos and a blog documenting my adventures.

After Europe, I'll get to work with the amazing crew of Community Art Makers, headed by the extraordinary Dave Umlas and Marrilee Ratcliffe, to build the Temple for Burning Man 2009.  This is an amazing project with amazing people and I'm very honored to be a part of it.

On a different note, perhaps you've noticed that I've been hard at work photographing and reviewing a lot of great live music in Austin.  I worked as an official photographer for SXSW this year, and I just had four of my photos published in the May issue of SXSWorld, so check it out (pdf coming soon)!  I also started shooting and writing reviews for melophobe.com which is a live music blog with correspondents covering shows all over the world.

I’m also working on a longer-term, in-depth photographic documentary that pays homage to living musicians all over the world for inspiring the thriving Austin music scene.  Most of the musicians I’m covering are legendary in their own right and have worked with Texas musicians in various capacities by employing them as part of the band, collaborating on writing, producing their albums, or being cited as a top inspiration.  It is really a two-fold project entailing a pretty thorough examination of the Austin music scene, and then searching out the musicians who most often come up as collaborators with or big influences for Austin musicians.  So check back frequently for more photographs, reviews, and interviews from some of the best musicians playing today as this ongoing project continues to unfold.

On a totally geekier note, we're making some great changes to the website.  We've reorganized the blog section so you can quickly and easily access the art and music blog, news updates, and artist statements.  The art and music blog contains my reviews as well as lengthier writings about my experiences involving art, music, travel, or any other noteworthy stories to tell.  The news section has general announcements and updates on my doings and happenings and anything else that is newsworthy.  The artist statement section contains my statements for various bodies of fine art work I've produced over the years.  I've also updated and expanded my bio section and have included, by request, more info about me and my family's so called 'colorful' history.  We've also updated the content management system so everything will be more easily searchable on google.  Many thanks to Aaron Geiser, once again, for his consistent awesomeness and webmastery.

And last but definitely not least, thanks for all y'all's continued support and enthusiasm about my work.  I really love what I do, and it feels really great to have a growing audience that enjoys seeing it as much as I enjoy creating it.  I love hearing from y'all even if I don't always answer your emails in a timely fashion.  Feel free to drop me a line anytime through the contact link, and you can always add me on twitter and facebook to get more frequent (and oftentimes mundane and inane) updates.

Thanks again, keep in touch, and many blessings to y'all, wherever you are...
