The Shape of Things series marked a return to non-photographic mediums and opened up new possibilities for my art-making process.  I have always kept a sketch book and made drawings, but I never really set out to make formal pieces of it for almost five years, and even my past attempts were hindered by an undeveloped creative and technical vocabulary. These pieces start with watercolor and then I build with pastels, ink, and more watercolor. The disregard for the purity of any one medium becomes crucial to understand the meaning of these shapes and their progression when taken together.
