Landscapes: A Photographic Journey of the American Southwest comes from my travels to Big Bend and the American Southwest over three years, from 2004 to 2006. The challenge is to find a way to capture such vast and wild landscape in a way that feels intimate and accessible to the viewer. I get as close to the land as possible. I backpack, hike, and camp in remote places and often find myself drawn to sit and listen to the sounds of that place, to watch the subtlety of light changing through the day, to witness the shifting weather. In doing so, I attempt to distill the subject down to its essential parts, to capture the raw and unconfined beauty of the place. Landscapes, Ilfochrome prints from transparencies, 20"x30", 2004-2006
